I am in a landscape design class right now. We had our first assignment to fully design a front yard this past two weeks. We've designed before but never included planting designs, and man oh man are they harder than I expected!
But I sure was happy with how it turned out! I took some pictures along the way, so here they are!
After the tissue paper step we used a light table and traced our design onto a final paper copy. IN PEN! I was so nervous I'd mess up that I was shaking. Not helping!! I finally calmed down, and things got better from there :)
During the coloring stage our entire table was COVERED in supplies. As well as all of our chairs, with some more stuff on the floor. It was crazy. But fun :)
The end product
I absolutely adore design. It's brought out an artistic side in me that I didn't even know existed.
For this class we always put a few of the designs that kids in the class did up on the projector and check them out. We critique them and learn from them. At first it terrified me, but now I actually really love it. For this project we all presented our designs. It was fun to see all the variety we came up with, and there were a lot of really beautiful designs.
Then, we put all of the designs on a table and started the voting to find our favorite three. Our teacher, Brother John, has done this a few times, and it works like this: the class favorite gets three extra credit points, the second favorite gets two extra points, and the third favorite gets one.
The first round eliminated the designs with 3 or less votes. I had 4 or 5 votes (don't remember). The next round was just to eliminate some of the designs that had 4 or 5 votes. There were 5 or 6 of these. Mine and another girl's designs tied for first. We revoted and I won!
The final round was between mine and four other designs. We voted and I thought I was fourth, but it turns out I was third!!!
I was so incredibly excited. One point of extra credit isn't that big of a deal in my mind, but having the class like my design, something I put my heart and soul and hours of work into??? I was on cloud nine. Seriously. I smiled for an hour. I'm sure I looked insane. but it was grand.
And that is the story of my first full design.
Love,
Tellese
